Palm oil giant Wilmar International Ltd said it was now facing difficulties in expanding its plantation acreage in Indonesia due to tighter government regulations.
This was said by Wilmar Chief Operating Officer, Martua Sitorus on Wednesday during a media briefing in Singapore as reported by Kompas.com
He said that Wilmar will now focus more on expanding plantation in Africa. Wilmar currently operates oil palm plantations in Indonesia, Malaysia and Africa. About 74 percent of its plantation acreage is located in Indonesia, while Africa only accounts for about 1.9 percent.
As of end of December 2011, Wilmar’s oil palm planted acreage totaled 247,081 ha. (rei)
