The government will summon the managers and directors of 20 poor-performing state-owned sugar mills at the end of next month to discuss ways to improve their performance.

State Minister of State Owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan said on Tuesday that the meeting would be attended by around 300 people from the financially-ailing mills including the directors, managers, and 10 young staff from each mill.

He added that officials from state-owned mills PG Bunga Mayang and PG Semboro would share their success stories.

Dahlan said that there are a total of 51 state-owned sugar mills, 20 of which have performed poorly.

He identified there are 10 main problems faced by the ailing mills including the issues of land, planting cost, planting method, maintenance, delivery of cane to the mills, extraction rate, fuel, machinery and management.(rei)
