Three state-owned companies (SOEs) will spend a combined Rp 9 trillion to develop 100,000 ha of new rice fields in a bid to boost rice production, said State Minister of State Owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan said.
Fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Sriwijaya will open up 30,000 ha of new paddy fields, seeds producer PT Sang Hyang Seri 40,000 ha and PT Pertani 30,000 ha.
Dahlan said that East Kalimantan will become the first priority for location of the food estate projects. Other potential provinces include Jambi, South Sumatra and Papua. (rei)
