The Indonesian Oil Palm Smallholders Association (Apkasindo) urged the government to limit the expansion by foreign investors particularly those from Malaysia in the oil palm plantation sector.
Apkasindo Secretary General Asmar Arsjad was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia on Friday as saying that the number of Malaysian investors in the Indonesian oil palm plantation sector has already been quite significant.
Asmar acknowledged that while has no data on the size of oil palm acreage controlled by Malaysian investors, nor the number of Malaysian oil palm firms operating in the country, they has continued to acquire local companies. “The oil palm plantation companies owned by the Malaysians are masked under Indonesian company name,” he said.
