Regents in C. Kalimantan told to allocate land for oil palm plasma

All regents in Central Kalimantan have been instructed to allocate land in their respective administrative area for the development oil palm plasma plantation.

Deputy Governor of Central Kalimantan, Ahmad Diran said on Wednesday that this was in line with a local bylaw, and to help realize the obligation set under Minister of Agriculture Regulation No. 26/2007 of oil palm plantations to develop plasma plantation.

According to the regulation, the size of plasma plantation that must be developed by the companies is at least 20 percent of the plantation acreage run by the companies.  Ahmad said that the regency administrations in the province are currently identifying which land can be allocated to realize the plasma program.

There are some 167 plantation companies operating in Central Kalimantan, but it is still not clear how many of those which have yet to develop the required plasma plantation. (rei)
