Quarantine office to destroy wheat from Russia

The quarantine office in Cilegon, West Java, has decided to destroy some 861.45 tons of wheat grains imported from Russia because lab test shows that it has been infected by Tilletia tritici and Tilletia laevis fungi.

Head of the Agriculture Quarantine Office, Banun Harpini said on Monday that the two types of fungi are classified as A1 plant diseases that must not be allowed to enter the country to prevent widespread contamination.

He said that the grains were imported to the country on January 9 via the local Merak Mas port. (firman/rei)
