Demand for processed chocolate products in the country is projected to increase by 10 percent this year on rising purchasing power of the people, said Piter Jasman, Chairman of the Indonesian Cocoa Industry Association (AIKI).

Piter said that the upcoming Valentine’s Day should also help bolster demand.  “The Valentine’s Day will help increase demand, which is expected to increase by 10 percent than last year’s,” said Piter as quoted by detik.com

Piter said that income per capita in Indonesia last year was estimated to reach US$3.542, or about Rp 31.8 million.  This was a 17.7 percent increase compared to $3.010 in 2010. The rise in income per capita has supported the increase in demand for chocolate and processed cocoa products particularly cocoa powder in Indonesia. (rei)
