The government projected the country’s cocoa production to rise by 5.69 percent this year to 1.34 million tons of dry beans from 1.07 million tons last year.

Gamal Nasir, Director General of Plantation at the Ministry of Industry said on Monday that productivity is targeted to reach around 1,200 kg per ha.  He did not provide comparative figure.

He said that the higher projected output would be achieved through expansion of acreage to 1.87 million ha in 2012.  “The output target could be achieved if obstacles in the field could be minimized and weather condition is favorable,” he told reporters. (Firman)
